Stress bombards us each day.
Even before COVID-19 forced us into quarantine, stress bombarded us each day. So it’s important to look for the things, in
addition to massage, that can ground us and help us navigate bumpy waters of
daily life. Dr. Bradley Nelson, is a
holistic physician and author of The
Emotion Code. He shares his tips
below:
DAILY INSPIRATION
Do some
research to find things that inspire you, things that lift your spirits...
I have a dear friend Ana, she has been texting me daily quotes, most of them biblical in nature but all uplifting. Doing this uplifts her, and it also uplifts me as well. I look forward to them every morning.
FOCUS
You might be dealing with kids, cell
phones, or TV while cooking, cleaning…we’re multitasking. Try to take time out
to focus on just one thing.
Being quarantined has giving me more to do in the kitchen. Prepping breakfast, lunch and dinner for the family, and sometimes snacks! It's non-stop, and then there other daily chores to attend to like laundry. My 7 year old child is also confined at home, she needs stimulation after completing her school assignments, and I do mean other than Roblox, or YouTube Kids. So we started are one thing, a picnic! We'll lunch or snacks outside on our yard when the weather permits, and lay out a blanket, eat our sandwiches, sometimes we work on Highlights Magazine, read a story, work on a puzzle, or lay out under the sun listening to Taylor Swift (one of her favorite artists).
BE PRESENT
The Past is the past, and the future is
uncertain. You cannot change tomorrow by worrying today, and agonizing over
things said and done cannot change the past. Be present.
We have all heard this saying over and over BE PRESENT. What exactly does that mean? Do you ever lie awake thinking of the day and mistakes you may have made or something you shouldn't have said to someone? It is good to recognize it, but don't agonize over it for long. Easier said than done right? What helps me is talking it out with a friend or journaling. Speaking or writing helps to organize our thoughts, makes things clearer, and eventually, you let go of it, and you become more present in what's going on in your life right NOW. Please, do yourself a kindness and find a tiny joy in your daily life. My tiny joy today was while mowing my lawn, I noticed one of my bushes blossomed the most pretty white flowers. (I'll post it on my Instagram @bluebirdmt). Find your tiny joy, and be present with it.
